The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) continues to expand and enhance its products and services to help small businesses start, grow and thrive.  While we have a wide variety of interests and activities, we focus heavily on three main areas: (1) Capital Access; (2) Contracting with the Federal Government; and (3) Counseling and Training.

Capital Access:

Our general multi-purpose business loan product is our 7(a) loan.  This product is provided by approved lenders throughout the state (just about all of them), and the lending limit was increased in September 2010 to $5 million.  There has been a variety of enhancements to help our lending partners serve more customers with even more of their financing needs.

Our fixed asset acquisition product, called the 504 loan program, is a partnership between those same lenders and certified development companies, enabling many small firms to acquire or expand their business real property and long term equipment with as little as 10% down.  In addition to increasing the lending limit to $5 or $5.5 million, under this program we currently have about 9 months left in a 2-year pilot program, where eligible properties can be considered for refinancing.

Contracting with the Federal Government:

We oversee New Hampshire’s 8(a) program, a business development program for socio-economically disadvantaged firms; we work with the state’s Procurement Technical Assistance Program and other partners to bring educational programs and assistance to firms to help them better understand how to find and bid on contracting opportunities.

Counseling and Training:

While we are involved in a variety of training and outreach events, we have partners who cover the state and provide free, confidential business mentoring as well as educational programs.  Through our NH Small Business Development Center, our six SCORE chapters and our new Women’s Business Center, many businesses can receive guidance and advice that helps them avoid or solve programs, operate more efficiently and/or open more successfully.

Your New Hampshire SBA team can be reached at 603-225-1400 or www.sba.gov/nh.

This is open to the public and reservation can be done online or by calling the Chamber at 895-2254.  Members are free and non-members are $5.00.
